SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

The Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships aim to provide Indian faculty, researchers, and professionals the opportunity to teach, conduct research, or carry out a combination of teaching and research at a U.S. institution. 

Flex Awards are designed for scholars who require multiple visits to the U.S. and for those who find it difficult to leave their home institutions during the academic year. This option allows grants to be conducted over short segments, preferably during the fall and/or spring semesters. Interested applicants should clearly indicate plans for Flex in their project statement, including a project timeline. Subject of Study: Agricultural Sciences; Anthropology; Bioengineering; Chemistry; Computer Science (including, but not limited to, cyber security, digital economy, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data analytics); Economics; Education Policy and Planning; Energy Studies; Geography (including GIS and Geology); History; Language and Literature; Materials Science (with emphasis on environmental applications); Mathematical Sciences; Neuroscience; Performing Arts; Physics; Political Science (including, but not limited to, International Security and Strategic Studies); Public Health; Public Policy; Sociology; Urban and Regional Planning (with emphasis on smart cities and waste management); Visual Arts; and Women’s and Gender Studies.

Duration of the Scholarship: These fellowships are for four to nine months.

The selected applicants for Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships offered by USIEF are benefited with

  1. J-1 visa support
  2. a monthly stipend
  3. Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines
  4.  round-trip economy class air travel
  5. A modest settling-in allowance
  6. Professional allowance

APPLICATION DETAILS

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Applicants can check out the eligibility criteria before applying for the USIEF Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships
  2. faculty/researchers must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent published work with at least five years of relevant teaching/research experience
  3. professionals outside academe must have a master’s degree or equivalent published work with recognized professional standing and at least five years relevant experience
  4. the applicant should upload a recent significant publication (copy of paper/article) in the online application 
  5. if the applicant is employed, s/he must follow the instructions carefully regarding employer’s endorsement

How to apply:

  1. Applicants must submit an online application form.
  2. It is important to read the FNAPE Application Instructions and FNAPE Applicant Checklist (available on the official website) before submitting the online application.
  3. Applicants are required to complete and upload FNAPE Applicant Annexure and FNAPE letter of support from home institution (to be downloaded via official website) on your online application form.
  4. Submit the online applications before July 15th, 2021.

Assessment Process:

Field-specific experts review applications to short-list candidates in September 2021 and USIEF informs the applicants about the review outcome in early October 2021. Interviews will be held for the shortlisted candidates and USIEF notifies finalists in March/April 2022.
